Community Outreach Intern
The Community Outreach Intern works as part of the WISE program development and implementation team to design and implement programs and events that aim to increase interest and diversity in STEMM fields in southern Arizona. In particular, the Community Outreach Intern will work closely with the WISE Director and community partners to organize semi-annual conferences for middle and high school students. Common responsibilities include: recruiting workshop presenters; communicating with workshop presenters to ensure that their needs are met; working with k-12 school staff to recruit students; collaborating with the public relations intern to develop promotional campaigns; working with WISE Director to develop budgets and complete funding proposals.
Campus Outreach Intern
The Campus Outreach Intern works as part of the WISE program development and implementation team to design and implement programs and events that aim to foster the development of more diverse STEMM communities on the UA campus. In particular, the Campus Outreach Intern will work closely with the WISE Director to organize workshops to promote the success of UA students and events that increase awareness of the important contributions made by women and under-represented minorities in STEMM fields. Common responsibilities include: working with WISE staff and student clubs to develop new program/event ideas; coordinating the logistics of events and programs; working with the public relations intern to develop promotional campaigns for campus events; working with the WISE Director to develop event/program budgets and complete funding proposals.
Public Relations Intern
The Public Relations Intern works as part of the WISE program development and implementation team to promote WISE programs to the UA community and throughout southern Arizona. In particular, the Public Relations Intern is responsible for working with other members of the WISE team to develop promotional campaigns and strategies to increase event attendance and raise the profile of WISE and our mission. Common responsibilities include: managing the WISE facebook page; developing and implementing promotional strategies for programs and events; creating promotional materials using Microsoft Publisher and graphic design software; organize and edit the semi-annual WISE newsletter for distribution to partner organizations and supporters.
Periodically, WISE has opportunities for interns with certain interests and skill sets to support local STEMM programs through direct program implementation with community organizations and local schools. Past programmatic interns worked in local schools assisting with after school science clubs, developing and implementing biodiversity inventory programs, and helping to spread Biosphere 2 science. Intern responsibilities vary depending on the particular program and program needs.
